About the Artist
It was once heard screamed to them out of the darkness of a sweaty crowd. Through a small mass of glistening foreheads his words sang, piercing the brief silence between songs. “It’s balls to the wall man, balls to the wall rock and roll!”
Though there have been far better words used to describe Static Lab these are to date the most honest and to the point. Static Lab takes a mixture of classic rock and roll sounds, blends them progressively with a touch of grunge metal and solid melodic sensibility, gives it a shake and spits out a testicle tickling sound that would have you swaying in the breeze just as much as jumping up and down or punching a random pit stranger in the face. Theirs is a sound you can revisit again and again. You’ll come back for what you loved and find something new and exciting every time.
Static Lab consists of four eager members. Greg Shean (The Frontman), his golden deadlocks flowing mystically in the night air, likes long walks on the beach and hearing women cry when he sings. Greg Winterton (Number 2), who also enjoys hearing women cry spends his time standing in almost complete darkness while riffing so hard his hands bleed. Dave Pake (Beat Monkey) is, without wasting words, the drummer. He provides the band with their esprit de vie and the rhythms with which they rock so #$*ing hard. Mike Marrello (Low Tones) is the band’s enforcer. He provides the band’s intimidation factor but also manages the low end of the sound while slapping his bass apart and headbanging so hard he gives himself whiplash. Now for Static Lab’s third album (The Problem with Homemade Parachutes), add into the mix Producer Darius Szczepaniak (Sum 41, Edwin, Big Sugar) and you have an unstoppable musical force that’s absolutely guaranteed to make you want to move your hips and throw up the horns.
