How to Behave Well and Win Friends
Before you start posting and chatting on JamLegend, please take a
moment to read through our simple guidelines for expected behavior.
Note: this is not an exhaustive list, just a good list of suggestions
for how to best keep out of trouble and win friends.
Don’t be a jerk. It may work for some one-hit wonders, but real
rockers are not jerks. Before you act, just ask What Would Bono Do?
Just imagine, are you the pure-hearted person helping the world or are
you a person who is moving humanity backward.
Don’t harass others. If you find yourself harassing another user
based on race, sexuality, religion, or nationality, just stop for a
moment. Think to yourself, “How did I get to this point? What went
wrong in my life, where I’m now hurling insults at a stranger in an
online gaming community, using hateful language? What would Bono
think?” You’re then free to hang your head in shame. If that doesn't
work, we'll be happy to shame you ourselves for making threats to
other users.
Don’t promote illegal activity. Whether it's hacking files or
selling illegal weapons, JamLegend is not the place for that type of
behavior. Although we understand the economics behind black markets,
JamLegend is just not that market.
Don’t be excessively vulgar, abusive, or annoying. Mild swearing
is allowed, but it should not be directed at other users. There’s a
difference between saying something like, “Damn, this song is hard”
and dripping profanity at someone in all caps, inserting another
language, and then adding a bunch of exclamation points. Extreme
profanity is looked down upon and our active moderators are not
forgiving.
Don't feed the trolls. If someone is acting in an inappropriate
manner, please leave the situation up to the moderators online. If
there are none, or they're not responding, use the 'feedback' link on
the side of the website to report them to us. Please do not "fight
back" or get drawn into an argument with them. That's why they're
doing it in the first place — to get a reaction. To quote Master Yoda,
"Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down
the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. "
Don't spam. Please do not spam the comments or the chat by doing
one or more of the following: (a) Repeatedly sending the same message
over and over; (b) posting "first!" if you happen to be lucky enough
to be the first one to post a comment in a song. You probably won't be
banned, but at least say something slightly more interesting, and the
comment may be deleted.
You will, receive an immediate one-week ban without warning on
the first offense for spamming chain letters, referral links, or other
annoying material across game comments. Seriously, that stuff is just
annoying.
Do not link to inappropriate material in chat or unrelated
websites in game comments. We at JamLegend know there are are other
places out there on the Internetz (some even where you can buy some
awesome wood!). You can share links to outside websites in chat, as
long as they're not pornographic, crassly commercial, or obviously
inappropriate. We're also fine with outside links posted in song
comments, as long as they somehow relate to a discussion about the
specific song. Spamming referral links for other sites across games on
JamLegend will not be tolerated and may warrant a ban from being able
to comment altogether.
Pick your username and avatar wisely. Offensive usernames and
obscene, pornographic, or terrible avatars will not be tolerated. If
your account has been banned because a moderator felt that it was
inappropriate, you can email us to have your account restored as a
different name. Account names that are created purely to antagonize
another user ("AndrewSuckslololol") will be banned permanently without
warning.
It is entirely up to the discretion of the JamLegend staff and
appointed moderators to interpret and enforce the above rules. If you
feel that you’ve been wronged, whether through the enforcement of
these rules or through the violation of these rules by another player,
feel free to report that player or moderator by using the Feedback tab
on the side of the site.

because they said it just about as good as can be said.
